Ubiquity
present, appearing or found everywhere
Urban Creativity Conference, 2024, edition 11
June 20, 21 and 22 in Lisbon
Urban Creativity activities, 2024, edition 11, on the conclusion of the 10th year, suggests ubiquity as general theme.
How, apparently, local simple forms and ideas have long lasting global impact ?
From a Lisbon perspective, as a challenging example, the balance between formality and informality, the flexibility of norms, and common sense lie at the heart of many quality of life aspects that the city has to offer. This encompasses everything from the city's structure itself, which has evolved over centuries to meet various needs, to the knowledge that emerges in response to scarcity and managerial challenges.
Since the first editions, UC, proposes a dive on the theory and practise of these Lisbon dimensions. At the same time, as the community of friends and partner researchers grow, we wonder how the Lisbon local based knowledge is common to other places, and how this knowledge circulates.
As Buterfly Effect, our actions ressonate wide and far. An singular affordance or a city wide tag, premeditated or not, they conform our collective reality.
But more specifically, is there something that occours in Lisbon (and other places) that we can designete as a usefull non conformity with the norm? Taking this idea to the extreme, does our societal organizations are mere masks for the truly anarchy of the every day?
On times of localized conflicts with global impact, from the nearly irrelevant confort to the life trthening confront, what is the role of our material actions. In the realms of ideas or self proposed solutions, what can we learn from our micro actions ?
If there in fact a common global phenomenon that emerges from mark making as a life standing condition, how can we interpret this marks for life sake? Can we generalize ?
What are mural festivals producing as outcomes? What this entertainment discuised of late art world capture of graffiti and street art producing in terms of future thinkers? How project and drawing based disciplines are incorporating this knowledge?

Cinema and the City
Specific call for SAUC transition year
We are looking for papers for SAUC that explore the synergy between cinema and the city from multiple angles and disciplines. We are interested in analyses that address how cinema uses the city as a canvas for storytelling, how it captures and contributes to urban aesthetics, and how it can be a tool for social commentary and critique. Articles may examine both historical and contemporary representations of the city in cinema, as well as futuristic and speculative projections.
This call is open to approaches ranging from specific case studies to theoretical and comparative analyses. We encourage researchers, academics, filmmakers, and professionals from related fields to submit papers that not only deepen the understanding of cinema and the city but also explore the possible interactions between these two vital elements of human expression and experience.
